Ride For Fun, Ride In Honor, Ride For A Cure

As the second Hope on Wheels (HOW100) rolls around, last year’s top fundraising team has been working hard to defend their benevolence title. While the incentives prizes are great, it’s the difference their efforts make in the fight against breast cancer that motivates Sisters United For A Cure (SUFAC), known in 2005 as Team PMS. In addition to soliciting monetary donations, the Sisters have set up HOW100 merchandise booths at bike races and a flea market, and also held a yard sale and silent auction.

The annual non-competitive bike ride has fostered close bonds between the Sisters. This event, so worthy in its aim, has again taken on great significance for the team this year. The Sisters ride not only in hope for a cure but also in honor of Michelle Sidney, team member Sarah Moore’s sister-in-law, who recently completed treatment, and in memory of team member Theresa Moore’s mother, Nancy Swagler, who passed away in March. Nancy volunteered at last year’s event and cheered the team to success. Her courageous example is sure to propel the Sisters as they pedal for progress.

“This ride has changed a lot of people’s lives and has brought our team closer together,” says Theresa. “I ride because I don’t want anybody else to lose a mom, a sister, a daughter, or a friend to cancer.”

“We’re riding this year to honor Nancy and all the others who are currently battling breast cancer or who have lost a loved one to breast cancer,” said Sarah Moore, SUFAC team member. “We are so close to defeating this dreaded disease, and every dollar that is raised for research puts us one step closer to a cure.”
