Favorite Frozen Treats

During the hot days of summer, there’s nothing more refreshing than a frozen treat. In addition to being delicious and helping you cool off, frozen treats can also have added health benefits. Frozen items can help keep you hydrated and count toward your daily hydration goal.

Frozen items can also be useful for managing the side effects of cancer treatment. Try these tips.

  • Suck on ice chips, frozen grapes or berries, flavored ice or ice pops to help relieve dry mouth or to soothe a sore mouth or tongue.
  • Add a scoop of ice cream to your liquid nutrition supplements to add calories and protein if you’re struggling to eat enough calories to prevent unhealthy weight loss.
  • Frozen foods are less likely to trigger nausea, and do not give off a strong aroma so they are tolerable if your sense of smell is extra sensitive.

If you’re craving a frozen treat, make your own ice pops by freezing 100% fruit juice in an ice cube or ice pop tray. Freeze your liquid nutrition supplement in a cup so it tastes like ice cream. Freeze grapes or berries to add to water or juice instead of ice. Or, just enjoy frozen fruit on its own as a snack.
