People often ask me how I can work in oncology and my answer is always the same. It’s a gift to be offered the opportunity to hear a piece of someone’s story. I get to walk into the office each day and be reminded of the extraordinary nature of people.  I would be lying if I said it was always easy, but despite the hardship I sometimes witness, I’m continually humbled by the strength, resilience, courage, compassion, and humor that’s alive and thriving in the cancer community.

I had the great fortune of meeting an amazing survivor who once described him/herself as a warrior.  That word has always stuck with me.  During June, a celebration of cancer survivorship, I tip my hat to all the warriors out there – to the patients, caregivers, doctors, nurses, friends and family impacted by cancer.  I honor your journeys and all the gifts that you have and continue to give along the way.
