Celebrating Milestones While Creating a Confident Cancer Journey
In July 2001, The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation shifted gears as a nonprofit that had its start in 1987 and opened its doors, literally, to direct services to support adults impacted by cancer. With our organization’s dedicated Board of Directors and staff, including oncology social workers and dietitians, the seeds were sown and our mission - of creating a more confident cancer journey anytime, anywhere – has blossomed into reality. Through programs, phone calls, emails, visits, partnerships, meetings, retreats, events, losses, and celebrations, our Minnie Pearl family has had tremendous growth. Our strengthened connections and deepened relationships have come from you, your stories, your disappointments, your triumphs, and your need to know more and to heal as a whole person. Our staff has now more than doubled in size and in 2011 we served more clients than ever – over 6,000 clients from 29 states, 3 Canadian provinces and South Africa!
This milestone comes a few short months before we commemorate the 100th birthday of Minnie Pearl and the 25th anniversary of The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. We have several exciting events coming up this fall including Center Stage at the Opry: Celebrating Minnie Pearl's Legacy on Monday, October 2, 2012. By invitation, this special event will give guests the rare opportunity to enjoy an intimate evening of performances while seated on the Grand Ole Opry Stage. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served prior to the performances, and the evening will end with dessert and mingling backstage.
The following night, Tuesday, October 23, the Opry will "tip its hat" to Minnie Pearl with a special Grand Ole Opry performance celebrating Minnie Pearl. This evening will be open to the public with a portion of ticket sales benefiting The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. Be sure to mark your calendar and join us for the fun!
